Registered Veterinary Nurse/Practice Manager - Bury St Edmunds

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) / Practice Manager to join a friendly, inclusive and community-focused veterinary team in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. This is a unique full-time position working 40 hours per week, split equally between 20 hours of clinical nursing and 20 hours as Practice Manager. Weekends are worked on a rota basis, with no OOH.

The practice is an established small animal veterinary surgery located in Bury St Edmunds, with an excellent reputation within the local community. The team is hardworking, inclusive and passionate about providing high standards of patient and client care. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining the practice's welcoming culture while helping to drive operational standards, team development and business performance.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Nursing
• Provide high-quality veterinary nursing care alongside the wider clinical team.
• Maintain clinical skills and contribute to excellent patient welfare.
• Support Veterinary Surgeons with consultations, procedures and inpatient care.
• Ensure consistently high standards of nursing and patient care.
• Practice Management
• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the practice.
• Help ensure efficient and seamless service delivery.
• Support and implement appropriate HR policies and processes.
• Promote colleague wellbeing and provide support around mental health.
• Recruit, train and support members of the practice team.
• Manage staff rotas and annual leave.
• Resolve operational and client service challenges effectively.
• Maintain high standards of client care and service.
• Help motivate colleagues and support individual and practice-wide goals.
• Manage their own workload effectively to achieve operational objectives.
• Contribute to the continued development and success of the practice.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong communication, organisational and leadership skills. This position would particularly suit an RVN who is ready to take the next step into management while retaining regular clinical nursing responsibilities. Previous veterinary practice management experience would be advantageous but is not essential for the right candidate. They should be confident leading and motivating others, comfortable managing competing priorities and genuinely interested in understanding the operational and business side of veterinary practice. A warm, compassionate and people-focused approach is essential, alongside the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, clients and patients.
