Registered Veterinary Nurse – Birkenhead, Wirral

About the Role

A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join its small animal team in Birkenhead, Wirral.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours across four days per week, providing an excellent opportunity for an RVN looking to fully utilise their clinical skills within a nurse-led environment.

The role includes a share of Saturday daytime shifts with time off in lieu (TOIL) and offers exposure to a varied caseload, ranging from routine first-opinion care to complex orthopaedic and medical cases.

Location: Birkenhead, Wirral
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours across 4 days per week
Weekends: Shared Saturday daytime rota with TOIL
Annual Leave: 6 weeks including Bank Holidays
CPD: Funded

Salary from Β£25,000 to Β£33,000

About the Practice

The practice provides a well-equipped clinical environment designed to support a broad range of small animal cases.

Facilities include seven consultation rooms, two operating theatres and a dedicated X-ray suite, alongside separate dog and cat wards. The practice also maintains a cat-friendly approach to patient care.

The clinical team manages a diverse caseload, including complex orthopaedic cases and challenging medical conditions, providing RVNs with opportunities to develop and utilise a broad range of nursing skills.

The facilities also support the development of more advanced clinical services, including cardiac scanning.

A collaborative, inclusive working environment encourages team members to contribute to clinical discussions and the continued development of patient care.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high-quality nursing care to small animal patients

  • Running and supporting nurse-led clinical services

  • Providing inpatient nursing and monitoring

  • Supporting routine and more complex surgical procedures

  • Monitoring patients under anaesthesia

  • Providing perioperative and postoperative nursing care

  • Supporting diagnostic imaging and clinical investigations

  • Assisting with orthopaedic and complex medical cases

  • Managing patient admissions, recovery and discharge

  • Providing clear and compassionate communication to clients

  • Maintaining high standards of infection control and patient welfare

  • Working collaboratively with veterinary and nursing colleagues

  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records

  • Participating in the shared Saturday rota

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be an experienced RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with strong general nursing skills and a commitment to delivering excellent patient care.

You should be confident working within a busy small animal environment and keen to utilise your nursing skills within a nurse-led clinical setting.

An interest in developing experience across areas such as surgical nursing, orthopaedics, medical nursing, diagnostic imaging or nurse consultations would be particularly well suited to the varied caseload.

Strong teamwork, communication and organisational skills are essential.
