Registered Veterinary Nurse – Theatre Focus

Location: Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience (from £27,000 - £30,000)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule: 1 in 4 Saturdays with time off in lieu
Working Pattern: 8:30am–4:30pm / 11am–7pm, or option for 4 longer days

About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, with a particular interest in theatre nursing, anaesthesia and surgical support.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, with 1 in 4 Saturdays and time off in lieu. There are no out-of-hours requirements or overnight inpatient checks, supporting an excellent work-life balance.

The role would suit an RVN who enjoys being in theatre, monitoring anaesthesia, assisting with surgical procedures and helping ensure the smooth running of busy surgical days.

The role is based within an independently run small animal practice with a strong reputation for providing high standards of veterinary care within the local community.

The practice has a supportive and close-knit team, including five Veterinary Nurses and six reception colleagues. The working environment encourages collaboration, professional development and career progression.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to small animal patients.

  • Work primarily within the theatre and surgical environment.

  • Assist Veterinary Surgeons with surgical procedures.

  • Monitor anaesthesia and support safe patient recovery.

  • Prepare theatre and equipment for surgical procedures.

  • Support the smooth running of surgical days.

  • Provide excellent inpatient and perioperative care.

  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients.

  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons and the wider nursing team.

  • Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with:

  • Current RCVS registration.

  • Good general veterinary nursing experience.

  • A particular interest in theatre nursing and surgery.

  • Confidence with anaesthesia and perioperative patient care.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • A cheerful, enthusiastic and down-to-earth approach.

  • A genuine passion for animal welfare.

  • A strong team-focused attitude.

  • An interest in ongoing professional development.

The role would be particularly well suited to an RVN who is looking to develop their surgical nursing experience within a supportive and experienced team.
