About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in Consett, County Durham, offering a salary of up to £32,000 depending on experience.

This is a rare opportunity to join a brand-new veterinary practice from the very beginning, helping to shape its culture, clinical standards and development as it grows.

The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis, with flexible working options available. The rota includes 1 in 3 Saturdays, 9am–1pm, offering a manageable weekend commitment.

You will have the opportunity to work with modern equipment, a varied caseload and an experienced clinical team while making full use of your nursing skills.

About the Practice

The practice is a newly established small animal veterinary facility in Consett, designed around clinical excellence, patient care and professional development.

The team includes two highly experienced Veterinary Surgeons with interests in surgery and diagnostic imaging. One of the vets is also working towards a Surgery Certificate, further strengthening the clinical capabilities available within the practice.

Despite being a new practice, there is a clear ambition to manage as many cases as possible in-house. This provides RVNs with exposure to a varied and clinically interesting caseload, alongside opportunities to develop their skills as the practice expands.

The practice is conveniently located in Consett, with free on-site parking and easy access to local amenities. The surrounding countryside also provides excellent opportunities for outdoor activities, while Chester-le-Street and Newcastle are within easy travelling distance.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care across medical and surgical cases.

• Conduct nurse consultations and support preventative healthcare.

• Provide inpatient care and patient monitoring.

• Assist with anaesthesia and surgical procedures.

• Support theatre preparation and recovery.

• Undertake diagnostic imaging and laboratory procedures.

• Utilise appropriate Schedule 3 procedures.

• Assist with advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic cases.

• Support patients undergoing complex medical investigations.

• Provide nursing care for exotic patients where appropriate.

• Maintain high standards of patient welfare and clinical care.

• Work collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons and the wider practice team.

• Contribute ideas and expertise to the development of the new practice.

Candidate Profile

They are looking for an enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse who is keen to develop their clinical skills and play an important role in establishing a new practice.

The ideal candidate will be:

• RCVS registered or eligible for registration.

• Passionate about delivering high-quality patient care.

• Confident across a broad range of veterinary nursing responsibilities.

• Comfortable with inpatient care, theatre and anaesthesia.

• Interested in developing their Schedule 3 skills.
