Supporting Futures are recruiting on behalf of an inspirational national charity who have over 50 years’ experience supporting people to rebuild their lives and empowering positive change. They are looking for Housing Support Workers to join their innovative Southwest London-based Substance Misuse service, which provides housing and support to drug and alcohol users with high, medium, and low support needs.

The service works with rough sleepers and/or those who are at risk of becoming rough sleepers and provides them with first-stage accommodation and supports them through both substance misuse and housing pathways. You will be responsible for key working clients across 5 premises and will be supporting them with all their practical and emotional needs, working to ensure their safe use of substances and minimise their risk. You will be working closely with partner agencies, including in-house and external recovery programmes, health providers, housing, probation, and specialist charities.

The high support service is a wet service where clients are allowed to use substances on site in a controlled and monitored manner (in line with the organisation's policies). The service operates in a non-judgmental manner and works intensively with its clients to minimise use, harm, and overall risks. Through their unique approach, they have had some excellent outcomes and have supported clients to thrive through addressing their substance use using a harm reduction approach.

What they are looking for:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working within Substance Misuse Services.
  • Adult Safeguarding Experience.
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of the issues relating to substance abuse (working or personal experience accepted).
  • An understanding of the needs of drug/alcohol users and knowledge of harm reduction techniques.
  • Naloxone trained.
  • Knowledge of complex needs and homeless legislation.
  • Knowledge of the range of community drug services and models of treatment.
  • Knowledge of brief intervention methods and motivational interviewing.
  • Health & Social Care Level 3 – you will be expected to undertake training to achieve this.

They are looking for someone with a can-do attitude, common sense, and who can work in a flexible and non-judgmental manner.
