UPTAE is an innovative activities and friendship project that uses our Technology Enabled Care video conferencing capabilities to bring groups of people together for a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, bingo nights, mental health and wellbeing groups, photography, tea parties, and more. The project is shaped and guided by the participants, offering a diverse menu of activities. The post is funded for 2 years by The National Lottery Community Fund.

About The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a UPTAE Activity Assistant. This role is designed for individuals who have a learning disability and can bring valuable lived experience to the role. You will play a vital part in planning, facilitating, and supporting a variety of activities for participants, ensuring they are engaging and enjoyable.

Responsibilities

  • Activity Planning: Assist with the development and scheduling of a variety of UPTAE activities, such as arts and crafts, games, exercise sessions, educational workshops, and social events.
  • Facilitation: Conduct activities both in person and online, ensuring participants are engaged and enjoying the sessions.
  • Technical Support: Assist participants with technical issues related to accessing and participating in online activities. Training and support will be provided as needed.
  • Customisation of Activities: Tailor activities to meet the specific interests and abilities of participants.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track participation and gather feedback to improve activities based on participant responses.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with support staff and caregivers to ensure activities align with participants' needs.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe and respectful manner, adhering to relevant guidelines and regulations.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with participants, support staff, UPTAE staff, and colleagues within Support for Ordinary Living (SOL).
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using online platforms and troubleshooting technical issues, with support and training provided as needed.
  • Creativity: Ability to design engaging and innovative activities.
  • Empathy and Patience: A compassionate and inclusive approach to working with participants to meet their interests and needs.
  • Organisational Skills: Efficient in planning, scheduling, and managing multiple activities and tasks.

Essential Criteria

  • Lived experience of having a learning disability – We are specifically seeking individuals who can bring valuable lived experience to the role as an "expert by experience," offering unique insights into the needs and interests of our participants.

Beneficial Criteria

  • Previous experience in social care, activity assistance, or a similar role would be advantageous, but not essential. We encourage applications from those with no prior experience who are eager to learn.
