Peripatetic Support Worker - Care & Support at Support for Ordinary Living (SOL) is a role within a non-profit organisation that supports people with various support needs and disabilities to live in their own homes and communities. SOL emphasizes values such as doing the right thing, making a difference, taking responsibility, challenging the status quo, considering different perspectives, and finding joy in the ordinary.

As a Peripatetic Care and Support Worker, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support that empowers people to live fulfilling, independent lives in line with their Outcome-Based Support Plans and SOL's mission, vision, and values. The role involves covering annual leave and absence across multiple teams, offering opportunities to support a variety of people.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Deliver compassionate, respectful care that promotes dignity, autonomy, and inclusion.
  • Support people in their own homes or family homes to maintain their tenancy and live the lifestyle they choose.
  • Assist with personal care (e.g. bathing) and daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping, where appropriate.
  • Safeguard individuals' health, wellbeing, finances, and property, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Promote social inclusion by supporting participation in activities and encouraging the maintenance of positive relationships with family, friends, and the community.
  • Accurate recording of information using SOL's digital systems and contribute to ongoing service quality improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to deliver consistent and coordinated support.
  • Be prepared to adapt visit schedules at short notice on designated working days.
  • Maintain compliance with SOL's policies, SSSC Codes of Practice, and National Care and Care Inspectorate standards.
  • Participate in coaching, reflection, and review processes to support personal and professional development.
  • Maintain continuous professional development and meet all training and SSSC registration requirements, including any mandatory training and SVQ completion.
  • Represent SOL positively in all interactions, safeguarding the organisation's reputation.
  • Work as part of a rota that may require availability during Christmas or New Year as part of a rotational arrangement.

Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience delivering person-centred care and support for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Understanding of and ability to work in line with the standards and guidance of the Care Inspectorate and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
  • Commitment to completing required training and achieving qualifications necessary for SSSC registration, including SVQ.
  • Registration with the SSSC (or willingness to register within required timescales).
  • Membership of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme or willingness to join.
Working Pattern

The role operates on a two-week rolling rota. Full-time contracted hours average 42 per week, consisting of 36 hours in week one and 48 hours in week two. Sleepovers may be required depending on allocated teams. Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday; Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
