Job Description

- Scawby Estate is a working rural estate with a diverse mix of types of woodland and farmland. It is a hands‑on environment where the team plays an important role in looking after the estate and its natural surroundings, while supporting its wider land management activities.
- They’re looking for a motivated Forestry Operative to join the team and build a career in forestry and estate management. This is an opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, gain valuable experience in a working estate environment and develop a broad understanding of how woodland and wider landscapes are managed.
- Previous forestry experience isn’t essential - they're looking for someone with the enthusiasm and attitude to learn, develop and become part of the team.
- What you'll do
- Working alongside the estate team, you’ll gain experience in a wide variety of practical forestry and woodland management tasks, including:
- - Assisting with the felling and processing of timber
- - Processing firewood and woodchip
- - Helping with the delivery of firewood and woodchip
- - Vegetation management, including strimming and pruning
- - Fencing and general estate maintenance
- - Site clearance and keeping woodland areas tidy and well managed
- - Track maintenance and upkeep
- - Supporting tree inspections and forest inventory work
- - Learning how to measure and assess woodland and trees
- - Using tools, machinery and equipment safely and responsibly
- - Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe
- - Working as part of a small team to complete practical jobs across the estate
- - No two days are likely to be exactly the same, giving you the chance to build experience across productive forestry, woodfuel production, woodland management and wider estate maintenance.
Person Specification
- You don’t need previous forestry experience to apply. What matters most is that you’re motivated, practical and willing to learn.

- A bit about the apprenticeship
- This is a Level 3 Forest Craftsperson apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to learn practical forestry skills while working towards a recognised industry qualification.
- You’ll combine on-the-job experience with dedicated training time, developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and effectively in a forestry environment.
- The apprenticeship will give you a strong foundation for a career in forestry, with skills that can be developed further as you gain experience and progress within the industry.

- - 5.6 weeks paid leave per year
