Are you an experienced SENCO or senior leader looking for your next challenge in a role where you can make a lasting impact on inclusion, SEND provision and student outcomes? A secondary school in Derby is seeking an experienced SENCO & Alternative Provision Lead to join the senior leadership team on an interim basis for the Autumn Term 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and passionate leader to shape the school's SEND provision and oversee high-quality Alternative Provision for students who require additional support.

The Role

  • Provide strategic leadership for SEND across the school while ensuring students accessing Alternative Provision receive the highest standard of education and support.
  • Leading the school's SEND provision and promoting an inclusive culture.
  • Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents and external agencies.
  • Leading the development and implementation of effective SEND strategies and interventions.
  • Managing both internal and external Alternative Provision to ensure students receive appropriate educational pathways.
  • Monitoring student progress and evaluating the impact of SEND and Alternative Provision.
  • Ensuring statutory SEND responsibilities are met and that provision reflects current best practice.
  • Contributing to the strategic leadership and ongoing improvement of the school.

About You

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or be willing to work towards it (if applicable).
  • Have significant experience leading SEND provision within a secondary school.
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of SEND legislation, inclusive practice and safeguarding.
  • Have strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
  • Be committed to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.
  • Experience of managing Alternative Provision, including both internal and external provision, would be highly desirable.

Start Date: 7th September 2026. Full-time position. Leadership Scale salary or competitive daily rate, dependent on experience. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant difference within a secondary school committed to providing high-quality support for all learners.
