A secondary school in Derby is seeking an experienced SENCO & Alternative Provision Lead to join the senior leadership team on an interim basis for the Autumn Term 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and passionate leader to shape the school's SEND provision and oversee high-quality Alternative Provision for students who require additional support.
The Role
- Provide strategic leadership for SEND across the school while ensuring students accessing Alternative Provision receive the highest standard of education and support.
- Leading the school's SEND provision and promoting an inclusive culture.
- Overseeing the identification, assessment and support of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
- Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents and external agencies.
- Leading the development and implementation of effective SEND strategies and interventions.
- Managing both internal and external Alternative Provision to ensure students receive appropriate educational pathways.
- Monitoring student progress and evaluating the impact of SEND and Alternative Provision.
- Ensuring statutory SEND responsibilities are met and that provision reflects current best practice.
- Contributing to the strategic leadership and ongoing improvement of the school.
About You
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or be willing to work towards it (if applicable).
- Have significant experience leading SEND provision within a secondary school.
- Demonstrate an excellent understanding of SEND legislation, inclusive practice and safeguarding.
- Have strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- Be committed to improving outcomes for students with additional needs.
- Experience of managing Alternative Provision, including both internal and external provision, would be highly desirable.
Start Date: 7th September 2026. Full-time position. Leadership Scale salary or competitive daily rate, dependent on experience. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant difference within a secondary school committed to providing high-quality support for all learners.
