We are hiring a Health and Safety Manager for a growing, multi-channel food SME based in Guildford (hybrid).

This ethical company has achieved double-digit growth for more than five consecutive years, underpinned by a strong brand, loyal customer base and a clear commitment to doing business responsibly.

This is a newly created role which will take ownership of their health and safety agenda and help them maintain a safe and compliant manufacturing + distribution environment.

As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and continuously improving health and safety systems across the business.

You will work closely with colleagues across operations, warehouse, production to ensure health and safety remains embedded in day-to-day activities rather than simply being a compliance exercise.

You will act as the subject matter expert for health and safety, providing practical advice, guidance and training while ensuring the business meets its legal and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the company's health and safety management systems and processes.
  • Develop, implement and maintain health & safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Carry out regular workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training and awareness programmes.
  • Work with managers and employees to promote a strong, proactive health and safety culture.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records, reporting and documentation.
  • Monitor and review health and safety performance, providing regular updates and recommendations to senior management.
  • Support the management of contractors, suppliers and third parties from a health and safety perspective.
  • Review and improve emergency procedures, fire safety arrangements and other relevant workplace controls.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, industry best practice and emerging risks.
  • Provide practical, commercially focused advice that supports the business while maintaining high standards of safety.

About You

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally with experience within a food, manufacturing, warehouse, FMCG
  • A strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident investigations.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage people at all levels.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to challenge where necessary.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
