About the School
The school provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for pupils aged 4–11 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The school focuses on personalised learning, communication, sensory regulation, and social-emotional development, helping pupils reach their full potential.
The Role
We are seeking Specialist Teaching Assistants to work with pupils with a wide range of communication abilities, including verbal, minimally verbal, and non-verbal learners. You will work closely with class teachers and therapists to support learning, communication, behaviour, and daily care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one or small group support for pupils with ASD
- Support communication using AAC systems, Makaton, PECS, or other personalised approaches
- Assist with sensory regulation, engagement, and behaviour support
- Support personal care, mobility, and medical needs
- Implement structured learning activities and visual schedules
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to meet EHCP targets
- Record pupil progress and contribute to assessment and planning
Person Specification
- Experience supporting children with ASD, verbal and non-verbal
- Strong understanding of communication strategies for non-verbal pupils
- Patient, empathetic, and adaptable
- Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
