Setting: Specialist Alternative Provision – Farm-Based Environment

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate Centre Lead to oversee the day-to-day running of a small, specialist Alternative Provision in Aylesbury. Based on a working farm, the setting provides a unique learning environment for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Animal care, practical activities and outdoor learning are central to the provision, helping students develop confidence, emotional resilience, independence and positive relationships.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in AP, SEMH or specialist education who can combine effective leadership with a hands-on approach to supporting young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operation of the provision.
  • Manage, support and develop a team of AP Practitioners.
  • Create a safe, structured and nurturing environment for students.
  • Oversee student referrals, inductions, attendance and individual progress.
  • Develop and monitor personalised learning and support programmes.
  • Support staff with behaviour management, emotional regulation and challenging situations.
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety and compliance procedures are consistently followed.
  • Oversee farm-based activities, including animal care and outdoor learning.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, schools, local authorities and external professionals.
  • Monitor student outcomes and identify opportunities to improve the provision.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous leadership or management experience within Alternative Provision, SEMH, SEND or a specialist education setting.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice and behaviour support.
  • Experience managing, mentoring or developing staff teams.
  • Confident managing safeguarding responsibilities and promoting student welfare.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, resilient and adaptable approach.
  • An appreciation of outdoor learning, animal care and practical education.
  • Passionate about providing opportunities for young people who may have struggled to engage with mainstream education.

The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity to take a leading role in a unique provision where you can genuinely influence the experience and outcomes of young people. You will have the opportunity to shape the setting, develop the staff team and champion an alternative approach to education, using the farm environment and animal care to engage students, build confidence and help them reach their potential.
