Job Overview

Supply Staff Ltd is seeking experienced and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistants to work across primary schools in Somerset.

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide individual support to pupils with special educational needs, helping them access learning, develop independence and build positive relationships within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with SEN and additional needs.
  • Support pupils to access and engage with classroom learning.
  • Assist with individual learning activities and differentiated work.
  • Support communication, social development, confidence and independence.
  • Help manage behaviour using appropriate strategies and school guidance.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to support individual pupil needs.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school or educational setting is required.
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of individual learning needs and appropriate support strategies.
  • Patient, calm and consistent approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Able to adapt support to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
