Not every classroom looks the same, and this one certainly doesn't.

The SRB at this Cardiff primary supports a small group of pupils with complex additional learning needs within a mainstream setting - high staffing ratios, individual learning plans, and a team that measures progress in the moments that matter rather than in whole terms.

We're recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join that team.

Your days will vary.

Some of it is structured teaching support: visual timetables, communication aids such as PECS or Makaton, sensory circuits, and adapted literacy and numeracy work.

Some of it is regulation and de-escalation - recognising when a pupil is becoming overwhelmed and knowing how to help them back.

There's personal care involved, and you'll be part of a team trained in positive handling.

You'll also work closely with speech and language therapists, the ALNCo and families, feeding into IDPs and reviews.

It's demanding work. It's also the kind of role where you can see exactly what your presence changed by the end of the week.

What matters to us

Experience in ALN, SEN or specialist provision counts for more than qualifications here, though a Level 2 or 3 TA qualification is welcome.

What we really want to see is resilience, calm under pressure, and someone who can build trust with a child who communicates differently.

Training in Team Teach, Makaton, PECS or autism-specific approaches is a real advantage - if you don't have it, the school will invest in it.

You’ll need EWC registration and an Enhanced DBS (we can help with both). Welsh is a bonus, not a barrier.
