On behalf of a large primary school based in Newport, we are actively recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant.

The role will involve working closely with children who have a range of additional learning needs, which may include ASD and ADHD.

You will play a vital role in supporting pupils throughout all aspects of the curriculum, helping them to achieve their learning objectives while developing confidence, independence, and social skills.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to create an inclusive and positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with ALN.
  • Support pupils with literacy, numeracy, communication, and social development.
  • Encourage independence and promote positive learning behaviours.
  • Support pupils to remain engaged, focused, and on task during learning activities.
  • Work alongside the class teacher to deliver planned learning activities.
  • Support classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.

Essential Requirements

  • DBS Certificate (Child & Adult Workforce or Child Workforce) registered on the Update Service.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • Two professional references.

If you do not currently hold a DBS certificate or EWC registration, you must be willing to obtain these mandatory documents.

The combined cost is approximately £87 (£56 for a DBS certificate, £16 per year for the Update Service, and £15 per year for EWC registration).

Desirable Requirements

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional learning needs.
  • Previous experience working within a primary, secondary, or ALN school.
  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies.
