Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant
Location: Newport
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:30 - 15:30
We are looking to appoint a caring and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to support primary aged pupils. The successful candidate will work with pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional, and pastoral support, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life. You will build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families while promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing, and inclusion throughout the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils who require behavioural, emotional, or pastoral intervention.
- Implement behaviour support plans and strategies to encourage positive conduct and engagement in learning.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote self-esteem, confidence, and resilience.
- Support pupils in managing their emotions and developing appropriate social skills.
- Assist teachers in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil behaviour, progress, and wellbeing.
- Support pupils during unstructured times, including breaktimes, lunchtimes, and educational visits where required.
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, the ALNCO, senior leaders, and external professionals to meet individual pupil needs.
- Liaise with parents/carers to support consistency between home and school.
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour in line with school policies.
- Encourage attendance, participation, and engagement in school life.
- Support pupils through transitions between classes, year groups, or educational settings.
Essential Criteria
- Experience supporting children/young adults who display challenging behaviour
- The ability to support children in a calm and professional manner
- Exposure to supporting individuals with additional learning needs such as ASD, ADHD or SEMH.
- DBS Certificate registered onto the Update Service
- Registration with the EWC
- 2 professional based references
