We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Barry from September 2026. This role is initially offered for the Autumn Term, with the opportunity to be extended until July 2027 for the right candidate. The successful applicant will be based within a Year 2 class, providing targeted support to small groups of pupils who require additional help with their reading and writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Delivering targeted literacy support to small groups of pupils.
- Supporting children who require additional help with reading, phonics, handwriting and writing activities.
- Reinforcing learning objectives set by the class teacher.
- Helping to develop pupils' confidence, independence and engagement in learning.
- Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Assisting with classroom preparation and learning resources.
- Supporting positive behaviour and promoting a nurturing learning environment.
- Providing general classroom support when required.
Ideal Candidate
- Has experience working with primary‑aged children.
- Has a good understanding of early literacy development and phonics.
- Is patient, encouraging and enthusiastic.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Is committed to helping children overcome barriers to learning.
- Holds a Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant experience (desirable but not essential).
