Long-Term Opportunity Starting Mid-June (Open to September start). Supply Heroes are currently recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and supportive school seeking an experienced SEND Teacher for a long-term role starting mid-June (Open to September starts). This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take a leading role within the school’s Enhanced Learning Provision. The successful teacher will be supported by two experienced additional adults and will play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of complex communication and learning needs. For the right candidate, this role has the potential to also go permanent.
The Role
- Lead and deliver engaging, personalised learning within the Enhanced Learning Provision
- Support pupils with complex SEND needs, particularly around communication and language development
- Work collaboratively with experienced support staff and the wider school team
- Implement evidence-based strategies and interventions tailored to pupils’ EHCP outcomes
- Create a calm, nurturing and highly structured learning environment
Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for a SEND Teacher with strong knowledge, understanding and, ideally, practical experience in several of the following areas:
- Communication & Language Support
- Strong understanding of communication and language development
- Everyday functional communication approaches
- Breaking information into manageable chunks with calm repetition of instructions
- Modelling turn-taking through motivating games and activities
- Intensive Interaction
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies
- Use of objects of reference
- Visual & Structured Support Approaches
- Now and Next boards
- Symbols and photos
- Visual timetables
- Makaton
- Communication / ALD boards
- Colourful Semantics
- SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support)
- Sensory & Multisensory Learning
- Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
- Zones of Regulation
- Sensory Circuits
- Fine motor interventions such as Dough Disco
- Multisensory teaching approaches including:
- Sand, shaving foam and water play
- Tapping out sounds
- Active learning strategies
- Air writing and sensory tracing
- Pre-tutoring of key concepts
The Opportunity
This role offers the potential for a longer-term leadership opportunity within the provision for the right candidate. Further training and support can be provided; however, experience in several of the above approaches would be highly beneficial in enabling pupils to be effectively supported from the outset.
