We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and highly skilled Pastoral Coordinator – SEMH, Trauma Support & Thrive Manager to join a dedicated school team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced pastoral, wellbeing, or inclusion professional to make a meaningful impact by leading SEMH provision, trauma-informed practice, attendance interventions, and pastoral support programmes.
Working closely with pupils, families, staff, and external agencies, you will help create a nurturing, inclusive environment where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
The Role
As the school's lead for SEMH, trauma support and the Thrive approach, you will play a pivotal role in removing barriers to learning and improving pupil outcomes. You will oversee interventions designed to support emotional wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, and engagement while managing a team that provides targeted support to pupils requiring additional pastoral care. This role combines strategic leadership with direct pastoral involvement, ensuring that students receive the right support at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- SEMH & Thrive Leadership
- Lead and develop the school's Thrive provision and emotional wellbeing support programmes.
- Assess pupil needs and coordinate appropriate interventions.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of interventions and support strategies.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of wellbeing and pastoral support services.
- Coordinate regular review meetings and ensure support plans remain effective.
- Mental Health & Wellbeing
- Act as a key lead for mental health and wellbeing initiatives across the school.
- Coordinate referrals and support for pupils experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties.
- Work closely with external services and specialist agencies.
- Organise wellbeing campaigns, awareness events and pupil leadership opportunities.
- Attendance & Inclusion
- Lead on interventions to improve attendance and reduce persistent absence.
- Monitor attendance data and identify trends requiring targeted support.
- Coordinate attendance meetings and implement effective intervention plans.
- Work collaboratively with families and external agencies to improve engagement with education.
- Develop strategies to support pupils experiencing attendance-related barriers.
- Team Leadership
- Line manage and support pastoral and wellbeing staff.
- Provide guidance, coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Promote best practice, collaboration and continuous improvement across the pastoral team.
- Multi-Agency Working
- Build strong relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Coordinate support from relevant agencies to ensure positive outcomes for pupils.
- Work alongside SEND, safeguarding and pastoral teams to provide joined-up support.
- Data, Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, interventions and pupil support.
- Analyse data to identify needs and measure impact.
- Provide reports and recommendations to senior leaders.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working within pastoral support, inclusion, SEMH, wellbeing, safeguarding or student support services.
- Experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and strategies to support vulnerable pupils.
- Strong understanding of attendance intervention and pupil engagement.
- Excellent communication, listening and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with parents, carers and external agencies.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and using school management systems.
- A degree or relevant professional qualification.
- Senior Mental Health Lead training or equivalent experience would be highly desirable.
- Thrive training, safeguarding qualifications, or additional wellbeing-related qualifications would be advantageous.
