Key Responsibilities

• Curriculum Development and Planning
  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative lessons aligned with the Key Stage 1 National Curriculum.
  • Develop inclusive lesson plans that accommodate diverse abilities and learning styles.
  • Create a stimulating classroom environment that supports early learning and development.
• Classroom Teaching
  • Deliver high-quality teaching across Key Stage 1.
  • Support pupils in developing essential skills in phonics, reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Encourage curiosity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
  • Employ a variety of teaching strategies and resources to engage and motivate pupils.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom atmosphere.
• Assessment and Progress Tracking
  • Assess pupil progress using both formative and summative assessment methods.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to support pupil development.
  • Maintain accurate records of attainment and progress in accordance with school policies.
• Differentiation and Individualised Support
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and higher-attaining pupils.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching assistants to deliver targeted interventions where necessary.
  • Ensure all pupils receive appropriate support and challenge.
• Communication and Collaboration
  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed about pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and senior leaders.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and school events, including parents’ evenings.
• Professional Development
  • Stay informed about developments in primary education and Key Stage 1 best practises.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching skills and subject knowledge.

The Ideal Candidate

• A degree in Education or a relevant subject (a Master’s degree is desirable).
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching within Key Stage 1 or Early Years settings.
• Strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum, particularly phonics and early literacy.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• A genuine passion for primary education and for creating an engaging, inclusive classroom environment.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
