Supply Desk is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Brighton, who are seeking a compassionate and resilient ASC 1:1 Mentor to join their team from September 2026. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to provide dedicated support to a pupil with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to access learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships within school.
About the Role
- As an SEMH 1:1 Mentor, you will work closely with a pupil on an individual basis, providing consistent emotional, behavioural, and learning support throughout the school day.
- You will help the pupil to engage positively with lessons, regulate emotions, follow routines, and develop the skills needed to thrive in a mainstream primary school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with ASC needs within a primary school setting.
- Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement throughout the school day.
- Assist the pupil in accessing classroom learning and adapting tasks where needed.
- Build a positive, trusting relationship based on consistency, patience, and clear boundaries.
- Use restorative, trauma-informed, and positive behaviour strategies where appropriate.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team.
- Promote confidence, independence, resilience, and positive social interaction.
Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting children with ASC, SEMH, SEND, behaviour, or additional pastoral needs.
- Background in education, mentoring, youth work, care, sports coaching, or support work is desirable.
- Calm, patient, resilient, and confident when supporting challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a wider school team.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children and encourage emotional development.
- A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
Requirements
- Relevant experience working with children or young people in an education, care, mentoring, or support setting.
- Understanding of ASC needs and positive behaviour support strategies is desirable.
- Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
- Two years worth of professional references.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
