Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a supportive and nurturing SEN school in the Slough area to appoint a dedicated MLD Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference by supporting pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) in a structured and inclusive environment. This role would suit a compassionate and patient individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs, helping them to build confidence, independence, and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As an MLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties, both in and out of the classroom, ensuring they can access learning and feel supported throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with MLD
  • Support the delivery of tailored lessons and differentiated activities
  • Help pupils develop core skills in literacy, numeracy, and communication
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and social development
  • Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • Adapt resources to meet individual learning needs
  • Support pupils with SEN, including those with additional needs such as ASD
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Contribute to a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly MLD
  • Understanding of strategies to support pupils with additional needs
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Commitment to supporting students’ academic and personal development
  • Ability to work full-time in the Slough area

Desirable

  • Experience in an SEN or specialist school setting
  • Knowledge of MLD and associated learning needs
  • Experience supporting children with ASD or speech and language needs
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent)
