We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled PMLD SEN Teacher for a specialist school in Aylesbury. This is a January 2026 start opportunity for a professional who is passionate about supporting students with profound and multiple learning disabilities. You will play a pivotal role in delivering bespoke education that meets the complex needs of learners, supporting them in achieving their full potential in a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver highly personalised lessons aligned with EHCP outcomes, focusing on sensory engagement, communication, and life skills
- Implement and review individual learning programmes and therapeutic support strategies
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists
- Employ a range of alternative and augmentative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, Eye Gaze, or other relevant systems
- Promote physical well-being and personal care routines with sensitivity and dignity, supporting pupils with mobility and health care plans as needed
- Provide a structured, nurturing environment that promotes trust, routine, and consistency for learners with complex needs
- Use regular assessment and observation to adapt teaching strategies and provide evidence for progress tracking and planning
- Maintain consistent communication with parents, carers, and outside agencies to ensure a cohesive support plan is in place
- Support and guide teaching assistants, promoting effective classroom practice and teamwork
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent with experience in PMLD or complex SEN settings
- Proven experience working with children or young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities
- In-depth understanding of sensory processing needs, communication difficulties, and physical or medical needs
- Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills
- Strong behaviour management skills rooted in empathy and structure
- Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Moving and handling training is desirable
