Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Eastbourne and surrounding local areas
Salary: £13.70 - £14.50 per hour
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only
Supply Desk are currently working with a range of specialist SEMH provisions, SEN schools, and mainstream schools with dedicated SEMH units in Eastbourne and the surrounding areas. We are seeking passionate and resilient individuals to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with education and develop positive behaviours.
We are looking for candidates who have experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour and require emotional and behavioural support, either in education or alternative settings. Roles range from day-to-day supply to long-term and 1:1 positions with pupils requiring consistent specialist support.
We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of relevant experience, including:
- Youth work
- Sports coaching
- Mental health support work
- Behaviour mentoring
- Support work
- Foster caring
- Residential care
- Scout/Guide leadership or similar roles
Responsibilities:
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm, professional manner, following school policies
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support emotional regulation
- Assist with learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher
- Support alternative learning activities such as outdoor learning, sports, or sensory-based tasks
- Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and engagement throughout the school day
