About the Role

We are seeking an SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant who has experience with those with Autism, SEMH, ADHD and Physical Disabilities to join an Ofsted Rated “Good” school in Southampton. This rewarding role involves supporting students with additional needs both 1:1 or with 2 children maximum, helping them to access learning and achieve their full potential. You will be working within the school’s Additional Resourced Provision which supports up to 15 children with additional needs to be nurtured in their learning and socialisation so they may re-join their mainstream classroom full time. The role will be starting from Easter until July 2026 with the school looking to make the position permanent for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to students with SEND and SEMH

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to implement personalised learning plans.
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate records.

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting students with additional needs or other additional needs (school or care setting).
  • Strong understanding of trauma, SEMH and associated learning/behavioural needs.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality practices.
  • Enhanced DBS check (support available if required).
