About the Role

We are recruiting supportive and enthusiastic Speech & Language Support Assistants to work across specialist and mainstream settings in Milton Keynes. This flexible supply role is ideal for individuals seeking day-to-day work, short-term placements, or longer-term assignments supporting pupils with communication and language needs. You will work with pupils presenting speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), ASC, SEMH, ADHD, developmental delays and wider learning needs. Placements are available across primary, secondary and specialist settings depending on experience and preference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide structured 1:1 and small-group communication support
  • Assist in delivering speech & language interventions and communication programmes
  • Support pupils’ academic engagement, expressive/receptive language development and social communication
  • Implement individual support plans and communication strategies in collaboration with school staff and therapists
  • Contribute to an inclusive, calm and language-rich learning environment
  • Support with communication aids, visuals and assistive tools where required

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SLCN, ASC or additional needs (formal or informal)
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to model language clearly
  • Consistency, patience and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils
  • Flexibility to work across a variety of mainstream and specialist settings
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils’ speech, language and communication development
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
