We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Watford from September 2026. This is a full-time position supporting pupils within the school's dedicated SEN room, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children with additional needs to thrive.

The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide tailored support, helping pupils access learning, build confidence and develop socially and emotionally within a nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils within the school's SEN room.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Encourage pupils' independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Uphold the school's safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs is desirable.
  • Experience within a primary school or similar educational setting is advantageous.
  • A patient, caring and proactive approach to supporting children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning are desirable but not essential.
