Supply Desk is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in High Wycombe to appoint a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a structured, nurturing school environment. This role is ideal for a patient and caring individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs, helping them develop communication, sensory awareness, physical skills, and independence.
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and medical needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:- Supporting pupils with PMLD on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assisting the class teacher with individualised learning plans and activities
- Supporting sensory‑based and play‑based learning approaches
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Supporting communication development (e.g. PECS, Makaton, sensory cues)
- Assisting with personal care and manual handling (essential requirement)
- Encouraging physical development and engagement in activities
- Promoting independence, no matter how small the progress
- Creating a calm, inclusive, and structured environment
- Experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex SEN (highly desirable)
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Comfortable supporting personal care and medical needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs
- Availability to work in High Wycombe on a long‑term basis
- Background in care, education, or healthcare
- Moving & handling training
