About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our specialist unit supporting vulnerable children who are working towards reintegration into mainstream education. This role is ideal for someone with either Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) experience or significant experience managing challenging behaviours and working closely with external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children with complex social, emotional and behavioural needs within a specialist educational setting
  • Act as, or work closely with, the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure safeguarding procedures are followed effectively
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and restorative approaches
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies including social care, CAMHS, local authorities and other professionals
  • Contribute to individual support plans and reintegration strategies for pupils returning to mainstream education
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement, resilience and progress
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to multi-agency meetings and reviews

About You

We are looking for someone who has either:

  • Proven experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy DSL)
  • Significant experience working with children displaying challenging behaviours and liaising with external agencies to support vulnerable young people

You will also:

  • Have a strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection and vulnerability
  • Be calm, patient and consistent, even in high-pressure situations
  • Be confident working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be committed to helping children successfully reintegrate into mainstream education
