Learning Support Assistant in Havant

Supply Desk is seeking a passionate and nurturing Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school setting in Hampshire. The successful candidate will provide targeted support to pupils across the primary phase, helping children overcome barriers to learning and ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive. The role would suit an experienced Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant or someone with relevant experience supporting children with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You may work with individual pupils, small groups or across different year groups, including Early Years, so flexibility and adaptability are particularly important.

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of learning needs
• Support children with SEND and/or SEMH needs to access learning and participate fully in school life
• Work alongside class teachers and the wider school team to support pupil progress
• Deliver and support individual learning programmes and interventions
• Adapt activities and resources to suit individual children's needs and abilities
• Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
• Support children's social, emotional and behavioural development
• Help create a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment
• Contribute to monitoring and recording pupils' progress
• Work collaboratively with parents, teachers, Senior Leaders and other professionals
• Liaise with external agencies where appropriate to support children's needs
• Be flexible and prepared to work across both infant and junior settings when required

Previous experience working with children in a primary school or similar setting is essential. Experience supporting pupils with SEND and/or SEMH needs is highly desirable. Experience working across different primary year groups, including Early Years, would be advantageous.

Relevant qualifications or recent and relevant experience, including GCSE English and/or Maths at Grade C/4 or above, is desirable. A patient, positive and nurturing approach to supporting children is required, along with a genuine passion for helping pupils with diverse learning needs achieve their potential. Candidates should have the ability to remain calm, consistent and positive in challenging situations, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, external professionals and wider support teams. A practical, creative and adaptable approach to supporting learning is necessary, as well as being reliable, flexible and committed to working as part of a team. Enhanced DBS clearance and the right to work in the UK are also required.
