Pay: £85-£92 per day

We are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Specialist Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and Physical Disabilities. You will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in very small groups (maximum of two), helping them access learning, regulate emotions and develop confidence. The role is based within the school's nurturing support provision ('The Pod'), designed to help children build the skills they need to reintegrate into their mainstream classroom successfully. This is a full-time position starting in September 2026, with the school keen to offer a permanent contract to the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 SEMH support - helping pupils regulate emotions and engage positively in learning
  • Support small groups - assisting up to two children with structured activities
  • Adapt learning materials - ensuring tasks are accessible and personalized
  • Promote independence and confidence - encouraging resilience and positive social interaction
  • Work collaboratively with staff - following personalised learning and behaviour plans
  • Monitor and record progress - maintaining accurate notes and observations
  • Create a safe, inclusive environment - supporting pupils wellbeing at all times

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or additional needs (school or care setting)
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and behaviour regulation
  • Patient, empathetic and resilient approach
  • Excellent communication skills with pupils, staff and families
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Enhanced DBS (support available if needed)
