Supply Desk is partnering with a welcoming and well‑established specialist setting in the Burnham area to recruit a dedicated and empathetic SEND Teacher with a focus on Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs in a structured and nurturing environment. This role is ideal for a calm, adaptable, and creative teacher who has experience—or a genuine interest—in working with pupils who have SLD, communication challenges, and additional needs. You will play a vital role in delivering personalised learning and encouraging independence and confidence in every pupil. As a SEND Teacher specialising in SLD, you will work closely with pupils who require highly individualised support. Your teaching will focus on developing key communication, social, and life skills through engaging, multi‑sensory approaches.
Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored lessons designed around each pupil’s individual learning needs and EHCP outcomes
- Use a range of strategies such as visual support, Makaton, PECS, and sensory‑based learning
- Promote the development of communication, independence, and social interaction
- Work collaboratively with the SENCO, therapists, and external professionals to review and support EHCP targets
- Track and assess pupil progress using appropriate frameworks and small‑step assessments
- Create a structured, safe, and stimulating learning environment
- Support pupils with a range of additional needs, including ASD, physical disabilities, and medical requirements
- Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to deliver effective learning
- Build positive relationships with families, carers, and external agencies
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – preferred
- Experience supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD, or complex needs
- Strong knowledge of SEN strategies and personalised learning approaches
- Patient, nurturing, and resilient approach to behaviour management
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet diverse and complex needs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Availability to work full‑time in the Burnham area from September
Additional Qualifications
- Previous experience in a specialist or SEN setting
- Familiarity with communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC
- Understanding of EHCP processes and reviews
