Supply Desk is delighted to be working in partnership with a highly supportive and specialist school in the Beaconsfield area to recruit a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teacher. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), helping them to access learning, communication, and life skills in a nurturing and structured environment.

This role would suit a patient, empathetic, and highly adaptable teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and experienced in supporting pupils with complex medical and learning needs.

The Role

As a PMLD Teacher, you will deliver highly personalised, sensory-based learning to pupils with complex needs, focusing on communication, interaction, and engagement. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ development through a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, multi-sensory, and highly individualised lessons for pupils with PMLD
  • Develop and implement EHCPs and personalised learning programmes
  • Support pupils with complex medical, physical, and sensory needs
  • Use specialist communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, and intensive interaction
  • Create a safe, calm, and stimulating learning environment
  • Monitor, assess, and record small steps of progress against individual targets
  • Work closely with teaching assistants to ensure high levels of care and learning support
  • Collaborate with therapists, medical staff, parents, and carers
  • Promote pupils’ independence, engagement, and wellbeing

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – desirable (candidates with extensive SEN experience may be considered)
  • Experience working with pupils with PMLD, SLD, or complex needs
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning approaches
  • Calm, patient, and nurturing teaching style
  • Confidence supporting pupils with physical and medical needs
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work full-time in the Princes Risborough area

Desirable

  • Experience in a specialist or PMLD setting
  • Training in Makaton, PECS, or sensory-based learning approaches
  • Knowledge of moving and handling procedures
  • Experience working alongside external professionals (SALT, OT, physiotherapists)
  • Team Teach or behaviour support training
