About the Role

Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking an enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with special educational needs, helping them build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their individual learning goals within a supportive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with special educational needs throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil with their learning, development, and engagement in classroom activities.
  • Adapt activities and resources to meet the pupil’s individual needs and learning style.
  • Support the implementation of EHCP targets and individual learning plans where appropriate.
  • Develop a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil, encouraging confidence, independence, and participation.
  • Provide support with communication, social skills, emotional regulation, and behaviour where required.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the pupil receives consistent and appropriate support.
  • Monitor and record the pupil’s progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Encourage the pupil to participate in wider school activities and develop positive relationships with their peers.
  • Create a safe, calm, and inclusive environment that promotes the pupil’s wellbeing and learning.
  • Support the pupil during transitions between lessons, activities, and different areas of the school.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage the development of independence and life skills.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is desirable.
  • A caring, patient, and nurturing approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A good understanding of inclusive learning and SEN support strategies.
  • The ability to remain calm and supportive when managing challenging situations.
  • A commitment to supporting the pupil’s academic, social, emotional, and personal development.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
