Are you a passionate, knowledgeable, and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) looking to make a positive difference to the lives of students with additional needs? We are seeking an experienced and motivated SENCO to join a welcoming and supportive school. The successful candidate will lead and coordinate the school's special educational needs provision, ensuring that students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive appropriate support to access learning, make progress, and achieve their full potential. This is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with teaching staff, school leaders, parents, carers, and external professionals to promote inclusive education, improve student outcomes, and ensure that effective support is in place for every learner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and oversee the school's provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring that support is effective, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs.
  • Identify students who may have additional learning needs and coordinate appropriate assessments, interventions, and support strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring that provision is delivered in line with students' identified needs and statutory requirements.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to develop and implement appropriate strategies, reasonable adjustments, and differentiated learning approaches to support students with SEND.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of students' needs, progress, interventions, and support arrangements.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision, using student progress data and feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support teachers and support staff in developing their understanding of SEND, providing guidance, advice, and professional development where appropriate.
  • Coordinate the use of additional support, specialist resources, and interventions to ensure students receive appropriate assistance in the classroom and across the school.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed of their child's progress, needs, and support arrangements.
  • Liaise with external professionals, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, health professionals, local authorities, and other relevant agencies, to coordinate support for students.
  • Ensure the school complies with relevant SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding requirements, and applicable statutory guidance and school policies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's SEND policy, accessibility arrangements, and inclusive teaching practices.

Requirements

  • A strong understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and inclusive education practices.
  • Experience coordinating SEND provision, supporting teaching staff, and working collaboratively with parents, carers, and external professionals.
  • Strong organisational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • The ability to analyse student progress, evaluate interventions, and implement strategies to improve learning outcomes.
  • A compassionate, proactive, and solution-focused approach, with a strong commitment to inclusion, equality, and student well-being.

Why Apply?

  • Full-time opportunity within a welcoming and inclusive school.
  • A rewarding role supporting pupils’ educational experience.
  • Access to training and professional development opportunities.
  • Refer a Friend scheme – earn up to £150 collectively.
