About the Role

Are you a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils' individual learning and development needs.
  • Support pupils with their academic, social, emotional, and communication development.
  • Build positive, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, using calm, consistent, and positive approaches.
  • Assist pupils with developing their communication, social skills, and relationships with peers.
  • Provide additional support during lessons, break times, lunchtimes, outdoor activities, and school trips where required.
  • Support pupils with personal care and hygiene needs where appropriate.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress, behaviour, engagement, and development.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, SENCOs, parents, carers, and other members of the school team.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where every pupil feels valued.
  • Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, behaviour, and confidentiality.
  • Take part in relevant training and professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • A caring, patient, nurturing, and empathetic approach.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school and SEN team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A commitment to inclusion and ensuring every child receives the support they need to thrive.
  • A current Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
