NHS Supply Chain currently has an opportunity for a Tax Accountant to join our Finance team, supporting the delivery of accurate, efficient and well‑controlled tax processes during an important period of ongoing transformation. Our work is focused on making it easier for the NHS to put patients first while maintaining strong financial governance and compliance.

This role is ideally suited to a qualified accountant with an interest in tax, data and process improvement, rather than a tax specialist. Tax technical computations and advice are supported by external advisors; the focus of this role is on data quality, process ownership, analysis and coordination to ensure accurate and well‑supported outputs.

We are seeking a detail‑focused Tax Accountant who will play a key role in delivering day‑to‑day tax compliance and reporting activities. You will take a hands‑on approach to working with financial systems and data, ensuring tax balances are accurate, well‑supported and clearly understood.

Every day you will:

  • Support corporation tax compliance by coordinating the end‑to‑end process, preparing data packs, reconciliations and supporting schedules for review by external advisors through to submission.
  • Support tax accounting and reporting by preparing high-quality data, reconciliations and analysis for quarterly and year‑end processes, including provisions and disclosures for statutory accounts, and contributing tax inputs into forecasting and financial planning.
  • Manage employment taxes and PSA by identifying relevant expenses and benefits, extracting and reconciling data, and preparing an accurate and timely PAYE Settlement Agreement submission.
  • Use systems and data to drive insight through hands‑on extraction, interrogation and analysis of tax‑relevant data in Oracle Fusion, maintaining robust supporting schedules and clear audit trails.
  • Investigate and explain tax movements by analysing variances, identifying key drivers, and communicating outcomes clearly to Finance teams, auditors and stakeholders.
  • Support audit and governance activity acting as a key operational contact for internal and external auditors, coordinating responses, documentation and supporting evidence.
  • Handle HMRC queries and business partnering by responding to routine correspondence, supporting tax queries, and collaborating with Finance teams to ensure accurate and compliant outputs.
  • Provide operational tax support primarily corporation tax and employment taxes, with exposure to wider areas where required.
  • Collaborate with Finance colleagues and external advisors to support efficient processes, resolve issues and ensure the timely provision of high‑quality data within an externally supported model.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, data quality and system use across tax processes.

What can we offer you?

  • Hybrid working opportunities, giving you the flexibility to work collaboratively in the office and remotely.
  • Annual bonus schemes, long service, and colleague recognition awards.
  • In‑house training, support, and access to external qualifications to maximise your potential.
  • 1 day of paid well‑being leave and free access to the 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Generous pension scheme (with us contributing 12% when you contribute 6%).
  • Access to our Flexible Benefits Scheme, where you can choose from a variety of benefits such as Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover, Income Protection, Health Cash Plan, Dental Insurance, and additional pension contributions that suit you.
  • 2 days of paid volunteering leave allowing you to give back to your community.
  • Access to many discounts from the Blue Light Card to NHS Discounts.

What skills will help you thrive in this role?

  • Tax compliance expertise with practical experience supporting corporation tax processes and preparing tax provisions.
  • Employment tax knowledge including experience preparing PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSAs) or equivalent calculations.
  • Strong systems and data capability with proven experience extracting and analysing data from ERP or finance systems (e.g. Oracle Fusion or similar).
  • Reconciliation and analytical skills with the ability to prepare detailed reconciliations and clearly explain tax data to non‑specialists.
  • Stakeholder collaboration experience working with external tax advisors, auditors and cross‑functional Finance teams.
  • Detail orientation and accuracy with a data‑led approach to identifying inconsistencies and resolving issues.
  • Clear communication able to present complex tax information in an accessible and practical way.
  • Organisation and reliability capable of planning and managing workload to meet recurring deadlines and reporting cycles.
  • Ownership mindset taking responsibility for delivery while recognising when to escalate technical judgement.
  • Collaborative and values‑led approach contributing positively to team success and upholding NHS Supply Chain values in day‑to‑day work.
