Job Description
EDT experience is essential. Candidates should be able to work autonomously and effectively managing safeguarding scenarios out of hours independently with the use of an on‑call rota system for decision making. As a member of the Council's Responsive Services, the Emergency Duty Team (out of hours social care) offers essential support services, generally, outside of standard office hours to address urgent social care needs and ensure the likelihood of emergencies occurring is reduced.
The EDT ensures that any social care emergencies that cannot be safely left to the following working day are dealt with, responding to the whole of the community of Coventry including Children’s Services, Housing, Adult Social Care and Youth Justice Services, therefore considering the overarching principles and objectives of these disciplines.
The Emergency Duty Team provides an out of hours emergency service between 5 pm and 8:30 am throughout the week, including weekends and bank holidays, and is office‑based during these times. The team responds to safeguarding concerns relating to children, young people, their families and adults. They also provide an out of hours housing service.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing and supporting the work of Children and Family Workers. In partnership with agencies, the post holder will respond to all requests for assistance received during the shift, with a particular focus on promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, adults and families of Coventry until core working hours.

- Monday to Thursday: 16:45 – 00:30, 23:50 – 09:00
- Friday: 16:15 – 00:30, 23:50 – 09:00
- Saturday/Sunday: 08:20 – 21:00, 20:20 – 09:00
Requirements
- Proven experience in working with children's services
- Current enhanced DBS Disclosure
- Eligibility to work in the UK without work permit or visa restrictions
