Study Support Assistant

To provide general support and enable access to learning opportunities for specified learners, support includes providing personal care for students (some of which may be of an intimate nature e.g., toileting). The candidate will also be providing support as outlined in our student personal, medical and therapeutic care plans. There are part time opportunities available, days and times tbc.

The duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • To supervise and support students during learning activities that take place inside and outside the classroom in all areas of the curriculum;
  • To maintain records of students ability/progress and assist in the preparation of feedback to people responsible for those learners;
  • To supervise, support and ensure the safety of students out of lesson times including at break/lunch times and before and after the college day, including escorting learners to and from taxis where necessary;
  • To provide personal care for students as required; (some of which may be of an intimate nature e.g. toileting);
  • To accompany lecturers and students on visits and out of College activities as required, and take responsibility for supporting the learner during these visits and activities;
  • To establish professional working relationships with students, to act as a role model and to set high standards;
  • To work closely with all lecturers to ensure that student needs are met;
  • To effectively use specialist aids, equipment and resources;
  • To encourage students to interact with others and engage in activities led by the lecturer and/or tutor;
  • To take class notes on behalf of students and ensure that they are processed and returned to the learners in a timely manner;
  • To assist and support students who have difficulties, particularly with reading, writing etc;
  • To work with the lecturer to support students in the building of course/portfolio evidence;
  • To participate in the development and use of strategies to promote independent learning;
  • To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom/College environment;
  • To take part in a review of the effectiveness of the support;
  • To regularly attend and participate in meetings;

Candidates should have relevant experience, a level 2 qualification in English and Maths (GCSE or equivalent) and be IT literate to level 2 (with a working knowledge of MS Office). A level 2 qualification in Learning Support for Adults and Young People would be advantageous.
