Our Professional Indemnity Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting, pricing, and managing a portfolio of SME Professional Indemnity risks in accordance with our underwriting strategy, appetite, and authority limits. This exciting role in our new Glasgow office will focus on delivering profitable growth through new business, renewals, and broker relationship management, while ensuring high standards of technical underwriting, service, and compliance.
What you'll get up to:
- Underwrite new business, renewals, and mid-term adjustments for SME Professional Indemnity as well as risks including P&C within delegated authority.
- Assess risk exposures, coverage requirements, and pricing adequacy using underwriting judgement, rating tools, and policy wordings.
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with underwriting guidelines, appetite, and regulatory requirements.
- Actively manage portfolio performance, including loss ratios, rate adequacy, retention, and growth targets.
- Identify emerging risks and trends within SME PI and feed insights into underwriting strategy.
- Provide clear, timely, and professional underwriting responses and technical guidance to brokers.
- Support business development initiatives, including broker meetings, presentations, and market engagement.
- Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing within authority to secure profitable business.
- Ensure policy documentation, endorsements, and underwriting files are accurate, complete, and compliant.
- Work closely with Product, Operations, Claims, and Compliance teams to ensure seamless policy lifecycle management.
About you:
- Experience underwriting Professional Indemnity risks including Commercial, Cyber & D&O within the UK SME market.
- Strong technical understanding of Professional Indemnity coverages including wordings, exclusions, and common SME professions.
- Progress towards or completion of a professional insurance qualification (e.g. CII).
- Experience contributing to portfolio analysis, pricing reviews, or underwriting strategy.
- Good understanding of FCA regulation and the UK insurance market.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
