Supermassive Games have produced some of the most recognisable and compelling storytelling titles in the world of AAA games. As a Technical Artist, you'll act as a bridge between art and engineering, helping develop and maintain pipelines, tools, shaders and workflows that empower our artists to deliver stunning, cinematic experiences. You'll identify and solve technical challenges, support asset creation workflows and ensure efficient content production. This is a fixed term contract until November 2026 (we therefore cannot offer sponsorship for this vacancy).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain efficient art pipelines, tools and workflows.
  • Support artists with technical problem-solving and guidance.
  • Profile, optimise and improve asset performance and memory usage.
  • Collaborate with engineering on technical requirements and solutions.
  • Create shaders, materials and procedural systems in Unreal Engine.
  • Ensure assets meet strict performance budgets and technical constraints.
  • Document workflows, tools and technical processes.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of scalability and performance in real-time engines (preferably Unreal) for a multi-platform project.
  • Proficiency with Blueprints and Material Editor.
  • Proficiency in Niagara is a plus.
  • Proficiency with landscape materials and Runtime Virtual Texture setup (RVT) is a plus.
  • Ability to optimise real-time lighting under Nanite and Virtual Shadow Maps (VSM) setting is a plus.
  • Ability to work with .CSV profiler and/or Unreal Insight is a plus.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate to support fast-paced development.
  • Comfortable with frequent iteration, including reworking or discarding assets.
  • Good judgement on when to reuse assets vs. create bespoke solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet high visual and technical standards through past work.
  • Ability to present strong technical art examples showing problem-solving depth.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner across disciplines.
