Supermassive Games have produced some of the most recognisable and compelling storytelling titles in the world of AAA games. The BAFTA-winning Until Dawn, the cinematic masterclass of The Dark Pictures Anthology, the multi-award winning The Quarry, the action-packed rollercoaster horror VR titles Switchback VR and Rush of Blood to the world of Little Nightmares, and many more! We are looking for a Gameplay Engineer to join our team on a fixed-term contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a high-impact contribution, taking ownership of core gameplay mechanics to ensure that the moment-to-moment player experience is polished, responsive, and engaging. This is a fixed term contract until November 2026 (we therefore cannot offer sponsorship for this vacancy).
Responsibilities
- Implement gameplay features using C++ and Unreal Engine.
- Collaborate with design to prototype and iterate on new mechanics.
- Debug, optimise, and maintain gameplay systems.
- Review code and contribute to technical and cross discipline discussions.
- Work closely with animation, audio, and VFX teams.
- Identify risks, manage dependencies, and support project planning.
- Tackle driven engineering challenges, including bespoke frameworks and internal mesh networking.
Qualifications
- Strong professional experience in gameplay programming.
- Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine.
- Solid understanding of Unreal Actor and Component architecture, including GAS.
- Familiarity with replication/networking, multiplayer systems, and physics in live environments.
- Knowledge of Sequencer and sequencer-based workflows.
- Expertise in profiling using Insights, CSV, and LLM optimisation techniques.
- Understanding of Unreal game feature plugins and core engine architecture.
- Experience developing for Gen9, Gen8, PC, and mobile platforms.
- Experience with gameplay systems (combat, traversal, interactions, AI, narrative).
- Ability to collaborate across multidiscipline teams.
- Experience with Perforce or Git.
