The Supergen Bioenergy Hub Economic Development Lead will lead an exciting 12-month programme to push forward bioenergy and bioproduct implementation in the UK by working with SGBIH researchers and local/regional authorities across the United Kingdom to identify the wider economic development impact of strategic implementation of sustainable bioenergy and bioproducts in the UK.

The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers based in different institutes around the country reporting to the SGBIH Director. They will:

  • Work with Supergen researchers to understand the UK potential for sustainable bioenergy implementation.
  • Identify specific implementation opportunities for sustainable bioenergy/products in the UK consistent with the 2025 modern industrial strategy.
  • Work with key players (feedstock suppliers, technology developers, project developers and market specialists) to assess the commercial viability of different bioenergy and bioproduct options.
  • Work with industrial representatives and trade associations to develop a sector vision of bioenergy/bioproduct implementation in the UK.
  • Agree a set of metrics with stakeholders to robustly quantify the economic value of developing the sector vision (to include jobs, skills, investment, GVA etc.).
  • Present and promote the vision to relevant stakeholders (including local, regional and national government) to raise awareness and trigger actions to unlock the vision.
  • Quantify those metrics to synthesise the economic impact of delivering the sector’s vision.
