About The Role:
We are looking for a positive, consistent and relationship focused Youth Mentor to support one of our young people within our Children's Residential Home in Eastbourne. This role is centred around building a genuine, trusting and meaningful relationship with a young person, acting as a positive role model and providing consistent support following the school day. Unlike traditional residential care roles, this position focuses heavily on connection, influence and shared experiences. The successful candidate will help promote confidence, emotional wellbeing, independence and positive decision making through regular engagement and mentorship. You will work closely alongside the home's adults and wider team to ensure consistency, stability and emotional safety for the young person, while maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain a positive, professional and trusting relationship with the young person
- Spend planned and meaningful time together following the school day
- Support engagement in activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and independence
- Act as a positive role model through communication, behaviour and consistency
- Encourage reflection and support the young person to make safe and constructive choices
- Work collaboratively with the home's adults to ensure a consistent approach
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Record sessions and provide clear and accurate updates in line with organisational expectations
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour management and risk management procedures
- Respond appropriately to any concerns, incidents or disclosures
- Promote emotional safety, structure and positive routines
About You:
We are looking for someone who is approachable, emotionally resilient and genuinely passionate about supporting young people. You will ideally have:
- The ability to build rapport and develop trusting relationships with young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm and consistent
- Reliability, punctuality and commitment to consistency
- An understanding of professional boundaries
- Willingness to engage in training and supervision
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable experience includes:
- Experience working with young people in any capacity, formal or informal
- Background in youth work, mentoring, coaching, sport or community work
- Lived experience that enables strong relatability with young people
- Understanding of the needs of children in residential care
Working Pattern:
Part time hours 3 hours per day, after school
