Base pay range
A creative workshop that makes sets for film and TV is looking for a Workshop Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day running, safety, and efficiency of the workshop. Unlike most workshops, the projects vary dramatically, and with each project, the space is constantly changing.
The workshop consists of 5 main areas: carpentry, metal work, C&C routing, painting & finishing, and the yard.
Responsibilities
- Health and safety responsibilities, ensuring compliance across all departments.
- Maintain inventory of tools, consumables, and waste disposal.
- Continuously improve methods, systems, productivity, and output.
- Implement and maintain PAT testing schedules, workshop safety posters, and COSHH storage.
- Conduct orientation for new employees on workshop procedures and policies.
- Manage shutter operations and ensure workshop security.
- Enforce safe driving protocols, emergency plans, and fire prevention measures.
- Oversee machinery training, ladder safety, working-at-heights safety, and extraction system checks.
- Ensure proper racking and stacking, traffic management, and slip/trip hazard inspections.
- Monitor use and maintenance of power tools, PPE checks, and manual handling practices.
- Manage first aid provisions and maintain clear emergency exit routes.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing a workshop of a similar nature, ideally that works on big projects such as set design, sculpture, events, or installations. You will have solid health and safety knowledge and ideally a NEBOSH construction certificate.
