Who We Are Seeking
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Surface Exterior & Design Draughter to join our Conceptual / Exterior Design team. You will be responsible for transforming concept-level designs into high-quality, development-ready surfaces suitable for manufacture and CGI. This role suits someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes ownership of their work, and is motivated to continuously improve both product quality and personal capability. You will be encouraged to think ahead, challenge existing designs, and contribute to advancing our products beyond the competition, with ongoing support and development from the wider team.
A Day in the Life
In this role, you will work closely with conceptual designers and development teams to refine and develop surface data using Siemens NX. Your day will involve creating production-ready CAD surfaces, reviewing design intent, and ensuring all outputs meet manufacturing and visualisation standards. You will often be managing multiple projects simultaneously, requiring strong organisation and prioritisation skills. Collaboration is key, as you will communicate ideas clearly across teams while working within established CAD standards and processes. Alongside your core responsibilities, you will continuously build your technical knowledge and contribute to improving design efficiency and quality.
Example Responsibilities Include
- Creating detailed surface data from conceptual designs using Siemens NX and supporting drawings
- Producing development-ready surfaces suitable for tooling, manufacture, and CGI
- Building CAD models and assemblies to support new product development
- Managing and prioritising multiple projects to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Communicating effectively with Conceptual and Development teams to refine design intent
- Working within established CAD standards, data management processes, and drawing office protocols
- Supporting the creation and population of Design BOMs for SAP integration
- Assisting, where required, with component cost estimations based on historical data and new technologies
- Contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team environment
To Be Considered for This Role You Should Have
- A degree in Marine Engineering, Product Design, Transport Design or similar (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong working knowledge of 3D CAD software, ideally Siemens NX or similar
- Experience in a similar role, preferably within the marine industry (minimum one year desirable)
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions independently
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
- An interest in design quality, surfacing detail, and continuous improvement
- Desirable: background in graphic design, engineering, or naval architecture
