Were seeking a dedicated Safety Manager with SC clearance for a prominent Defence client based in Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a high-calibre team, contributing to vital submarine projects and ensuring safety standards are maintained at the highest level. In this role, you’ll benefit from a flexible hybrid working arrangement, spending 2-3 days onsite each week, allowing for a balanced and supported working environment. The contract is initially until 26 July 2026, with the potential for extension, offering a day rate of up to £570 (inside IR35).

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, coordinating, and assessing all structural hazards and risks across the T, V, and A Class submarines.
  • Updating hazard action grids and preparing reports for key safety meetings such as the ISM Safety and Environmental Committee.
  • Managing hazard review processes in line with internal safety standards like RHILFE, SMARTER, and HLH.
  • Reviewing and maintaining hazard and risk databases on a monthly basis.
  • Overseeing all structural safety development activities and preparing progress reports.
  • Creating tasking forms for future structural and naval architecture development projects.
  • Tracking certification and condition statuses, updating and briefing relevant teams.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for Structures and Naval Architecture (NavArch) matters with internal and external stakeholders, including COMEX/LIFEX/PLEX.

Qualifications

  • At least a level 4 qualification (HNC, Level 4 Diploma, NVQ Level 4) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional registration or equivalent experience demonstrating the skills necessary for hazard management and process coordination.
  • Proven experience in leading hazard review processes and formulating effective Forward Action Plans.
  • Experience managing internal teams and subcontractors within complex engineering environments.

Desirable qualities

  • Knowledge of the ISM Safety Management System, which would enhance your ability to navigate the client’s safety protocols effectively.
