Role mission
Own Sunnystep’s finance operations, reporting, controls, cash flow visibility, and business finance support. This person should turn finance from a reporting function into a management system that helps the company make faster, sharper, and more profitable decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Own monthly management accounts, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, payment cycles, and cash visibility.
- Build budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across retail, ecommerce, inventory, marketing, and operations.
- Partner with leadership to analyze profitability, margins, inventory efficiency, store performance, channel performance, and cost control.
- Strengthen internal controls, approval processes, reconciliations, audit readiness, and compliance.
- Manage accounting operations including AP, AR, bank reconciliation, month-end close, GST/tax coordination, and statutory filings with external partners where needed.
- Improve finance systems, dashboards, workflows, and automation using AI/tools where practical.
- Support grant claims, funding, financing, board/investor reporting, and strategic finance projects.
- Build and lead a lean finance team as the company scales.

- Monthly close is accurate, predictable, and completed on time.
- Leadership has clear visibility on cash flow, profitability, margins, and key financial risks.
- Budget vs actual reporting is operating monthly with clear owners and actions.
- Finance controls are tightened without slowing down strong execution.
- Manual finance work is reduced through better systems, templates, dashboards, or automation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of relevant finance/accounting experience.
- Retail, ecommerce, consumer goods, inventory-heavy, or high-growth SME experience is a strong plus.
- Audit experience is a plus, especially exposure to controls, reconciliations, financial statements, or process improvement.
- Strong accounting foundation and comfort owning month-end close, reporting, reconciliation, controls, and compliance.
- Able to translate numbers into business decisions, not just prepare reports.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with Xero, ERP, POS/ecommerce/payment systems, BI tools, or automation tools preferred.
- High attention to detail, strong ownership, and ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Comfortable building processes from scratch and improving messy systems.
- Native mindset: willing to use AI tools and automation to improve finance speed, accuracy, and leverage.
- CPA/ACCA/CA or equivalent is preferred but not required if operating track record is strong.
