About The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for qualified electricians — including those new to teaching — who are passionate about developing the next generation of industry professionals.

We are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate strong practical and theoretical knowledge in Electrical Installation and deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practices up to Level 3.
You will work with a dedicated and friendly team to support learners in achieving positive outcomes and progressing into successful careers.
There is significant potential for further development and expansion across this curriculum area, and you will play a key role in helping to shape the future of Electrical Installation at Sunderland College.
You will plan, promote, deliver, monitor and evaluate your teaching while supporting learners’ academic and personal progress.
You will also build positive relationships with parents, employers and industry partners to ensure students receive an outstanding experience.
- Role Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate high-quality teaching, learning and assessment from Level 1 to Level 3 Electrical Installation.
- Take responsibility for the recruitment, retention, progress and achievement of students within your programme(s).
- Contribute to curriculum planning, internal and external quality assurance processes, and programme performance reviews.
- Provide high-quality academic and pastoral support, including tracking, monitoring and targeted intervention where required.
- Build and maintain strong employer links to support work experience, site visits and positive learner destinations.
- Support marketing and recruitment activities such as open events, school visits and applicant interviews.
- Taking Teaching Further & Additional Incentives
If you’re making the move into further education teaching, you may be eligible for the Taking Teaching Further (TTF) programme a funded route to help industry professionals retrain as FE teachers.
In addition, for roles in high-need subjects or regions you may also benefit from the government’s targeted retention incentive (formerly “levelling-up premium”) payments, worth up to £6,000 for eligible teachers in their first five years and teaching certain shortage subjects.
Please note eligibility for both TTF and the Targeted Retention Incentive varies by role, subject area and provider, they do not apply to every vacancy.

If you do not already hold a teaching qualification
- The qualification is completed within the first 2 years.
- Usually delivered one evening per week (3 hours).

- You will receive 3 hours remission in your first year
- This reduces teaching from 24 hours to 21 hours per week
- Ensures time to complete training and settle into the role.
