As a Team Leader (Fine Turf), within our dedicated Local Services team, you can contribute to improving environmental standards within Sunderland. Applicants will enjoy working outdoors, being active and dealing with people. You will work within a team or independently, to provide exceptional services to our residents and visitors, by completing fine turf maintenance, grounds maintenance and street cleansing tasks across the city. The job can be physically demanding, as you carry out a range of duties, including seasonal work tasks, outdoors, and in all weather conditions. You will complete a range of routine operational tasks requiring the skilled operation of vehicles, power tools or equipment in accordance with work practices to support the provision of front-line services which is aligned to customer need. You will be responsible for undertaking checks to ensure vehicles, tools or equipment are safe to use and properly adjusted prior to operation. Full PPE and training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fine turf maintenance, grounds maintenance and street cleansing tasks across Sunderland.
  • Carry out routine operational tasks requiring the skilled operation of vehicles, power tools or equipment in accordance with work practices.
  • Undertake checks to ensure vehicles, tools or equipment are safe to use and properly adjusted prior to operation.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and, as required, in seasonal tasks and varying shifts.
  • Contribute to front-line services aligned to customer need, working as part of a team or independently.
  • Receive full PPE and training for duties.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (C1E preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to operate vehicles and a variety of power tools and technical equipment; undertake routine maintenance under direction.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions, policies, procedures and legislation to carry out duties compliantly.
  • Flexibility to work from any of the 4 Council depots in Hendon, South Hylton, Houghton Le Spring or Washington.
  • Prepared to work any day of the week (Monday – Sunday) and to respond at short notice; may be required to work Bank/Public holidays and between Christmas and New Year as needed.

Working arrangements

You may be required to work from any of the four Council depots and to work across different sites as part of the Local Services team.
